Learning Handwriting in School: I was taught handwriting (aka longhand, or cursive) in elementary school. It's one of the earliest things I remember being taught aside from how to read analogue clocks, and the alphabet. I hated those clock exercises! I can still visualize the dreaded worksheet :(. For the most part we weren't required to use handwriting in school. I somewhat recall having to do a few assignments in it to help us practice, but after that teachers made it optional (to our relief), and in the higher grades it often wasn't permitted at all. Instead assignments were required to be written in "print" for readability. By the time I reached secondary school many things had to be typed up on a computer, unless you had very neat writing. I had a lot less pencil/ink stains on the side of my hand. All these years later, I can still read handwriting, but I can no longer write it. I've forgotten some of the rules, and letter transitions. Nothing a refresher wouldn't fix. Handwriting just isn't a skill that's been called for much in my life. I'm glad to have learned it though.
